America’s Got Talent Kevin Skinner gets you for real

America’s Got Talent Kevin Skinner has that voice and the expression which gnaws at the emotions. He sings so good like soul musician Michael Bolton who gets you carried away to the last syllable of his music. When I heard Kevin Skinner on U Tube at his audition with America’s Got Talent, I can’t help crying.

The raw emotional tone of his voice along with the emotive tugs of his face and his expressive eyes just got me moved I was shedding tears admiring the guy and everything of him from a chicken catcher to a talented musician. I guess the melancholy of the song also did it. Kevin Skinner got the crowd wide-eyed and mouths gaping at such a talented soul. What more, he got “America's Got Talent" judges Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne, and David Hasselhoff giving him their nods for him to go for the next round.

Fred Dame Jr at Seacoastonlin.com says, “shame on me to make a judgment on Skinner's talent based on the fact that he was from the back woods of Kentucky, a former chicken catcher and giving off a persona much like a country bumpkin.”
Fred goes on to say:

“I was terribly wrong, so wrong! Never judge a book by its cover ran through my mind, as Kevin Skinner opened his mouth and began strumming his guitar. Skinner gave a performance that mesmerized the audience and caused jaws to drop at the judges desk.

The audience was paralyzed and I nearly fell out of my seat. This man could sing and everyone was glued to every note of the song. I cannot say enough in this review to do this man justice.

Go to the America's got Talent website on NBC.com, and see for yourself if you weren't privy to last night's show. A simple man, with a simple song brought the house down and landed him a spot in the next round.

It's my belief and I am sure that of everyone there, that Kevin Skinner will go on to possibly win this competition. Watch this guy! I will not be surprised to see him standing on that stage in the finals, later this summer!”

Kevin Skinner, 35, is an unemployed farmer from Mayfield Kentucky who had years of catching chickens for a liveihood. Back home, he played music with a band called Lemon Bent.

A genuine soul, you can hear it from his song.

French tourists seen as world's worst

French tourists are the worst in the world, coming across as bad at foreign languages, tight-fisted and arrogant, according to a survey of 4,500 hotel owners across the world.

They finish in last place in the survey carried out for internet travel agency Expedia by polling company TNS Infratest, which said French holidaymakers don't speak local languages and are seen as impolite.

"The French don't go abroad very much. We're lucky enough to have a country which is magnificent in terms of its landscape and culture," he said, adding that 90 per cent of French people did their traveling at home.

"So when they're on holiday they can be a bit stressed, they're not used to things, and this can lead them to be demanding in a way which could be seen as a certain arrogance."

Michael Jackson’s addiction traced to 'mental illness'

Drug addiction counselor and author Oscar Bamuhigire, has this to say about Michael Jackson’s drug addiction to pain killers.

"Michael Jackson suffered from one of the worst forms of mental illness, referred to in psychiatry as alienation of the existential self. It was primarily because of this mental illness that he became a drug addict. The root cause of this mental illness, which affects a large number of blacks, making them succumb to addiction and self destruction, is centuries of conditioning as a result of the slave trade and oppression.

These facts are well explained by Oscar Bamuhigire in The Healing Power Of Self Love:

Due to the effects of alienation of the existential self, some blacks have even gone as far as changing their skin color from black to white, in an attempt to deny their “Africanness”. Many African women today apply skin lightening creams, and wear wigs of white women’s hair, in an attempt to deny their “Africanness”. It is considered fashionable by many African women to wear a wig of a white woman’s hair. Many Africans break their backs trying to imitate the accents of Europeans or Americans. These are symptoms of the psychiatric illness which Frantz Fanon aptly labeled ‘Alienation of the existential self ’. It is a severe form of self hatred which often leads to self destruction, physical and mental illness.

Oscar Bamuhigire provides new insights into the nature of addiction. In the field of alcoholism and drug addiction treatment, there have always been questions for which there were no satisfactory answers: Is substance abuse a problem of discipline or a disease? Why is it that most alcoholics/ drug addicts do not seek for, or receive treatment? Why is it that only 5- 10% of alcoholics/ drug addicts respond to treatment? Why do untreated addicts have a better chance at breaking the bond of addiction than addicts who get treated? Why has the incidence of recovery without the help of formal treatment continued to rise? Are the successes of Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A) nothing more than spontaneous remission?

Why are some people able to quit their addiction without treatment, while others only get worse after treatment? Why does treatment have a negative effect? Why are some treatment programs more effective than others? Why has the world continued to experience a steady increase in the rate of addiction and self destruction? Why is it that 1 in 2 Americans has a diagnosable mental disorder each year, and 81 Americans commit suicide every day? Why do non-Hispanic blacks bear a disproportionate burden of disease, injury, death, and disability? Why do the most successful treatment programs for addicts have a spiritual component? Why do non white people suffer from a high rate of substance abuse and self destruction? Why does Africa have the highest rate of suicide, poverty, and disease in the world?

In a unique blend of psychology, psychiatry, metaphysics, medicine, orient and western religions, Oscar Bamuhigire provides answers to these and many more questions. In making his revolutionary contribution to the scientific world, he also explains how addicts can enhance their chances of recovery from addiction through the treatment programs of their choice, by utilizing the ancient tools of discipline, lateral thinking, and insight from the life experiences of the world’s greatest leaders.

Even though this book was initially designed to meet the needs of alcoholics and drug addicts in treatment, it may be of great value to people who are struggling with other types of addiction, and those who are faced with major obstacles to their self-realization or self actualization."

Oscar Bamuhigire has more than 12 years of experience as an alcohol and drug addiction counselor. He has a degree in Psychology from Makerere University, and training in the Therapeutic Community model from DAYTOP International, New York, U.S.A (America’s oldest and largest drug treatment program). In 2003, he represented Africa at an international symposium on alcohol and drug addiction held in Rome, the Vatican, organized by the Vatican and the Italian Federation of Therapeutic Communities. During his stay in the Vatican, he personally met Pope John Paul II. He is one of the founders of Serenity Centre, which is Uganda’s only residential treatment center for addicts. He has also worked as an addiction counselor in other countries like Bangladesh and Kenya, authored more than one hundred newspaper articles on addiction treatment, and featured several times on Ugandan Television and radio talk shows. Early in his career, he received a vocational Award from the Rotary Club of Kampala South in recognition of his work with addicts. Oscar Bamuhigire suffered from alcoholism for ten years, but recovered in 1995 after he joined a 12 step group. He currently lives in Uganda, where he works as an addiction counselor in private practice. Contact Oscar Bamuhigire at Tel: 256-0772927955 or email: obamuhigire@yahoo.com. Tanabata Festival on July 7

On the 7th night of the 7th moon or July 7th, Tanabata Festival is celebrated in Japan. Tanabata is also known as the Star Festival or the Festival of the Star-Crossed Lovers.

The Tanabata is celebrated on the mainland and in Okinawa. On mainland Japan, the festival witnesses an evening ceremony where candles are floated down streams and rivers. The flames represent the stars and the water represents the heavenly river.

In Okinawa, children and adults write Japanese love poems on brightly colored strips of paper. Other strips of paper along with bright decorations represent wishes for success, wealth, love and health. The decorations come in red, yellow, green white and black paper. The poems and decorations are hung on bamboo trees or branches and offered to the stars.

First celebrated in 755, the Tanabata Festival as well as many others began with a popular legend.

The legend is based on a tale about Princess Shokujo, the weaving girl, and her father, the Celestial Emperor Tentei. They lived on the east bank of the Heavenly River also known as the Milky Way. The princess wove cloth for the many gods in her father's mansion. As she reached maturity her father chose a herdsman named Kengyu the "Ox Puller" who ruled west of the river, to be her groom.

Shokujo and Kengyu were introduced, fell in love and were married. Their honeymoon lasted so long that they both neglected to perform their duties. Kengyu's oxen became thin and weak. The gods were angry because Shokujo was not weaving cloth for them. Emperor Tentei decided to punish the young couple and condemned them to be separated by the river, only allowing them to meet one night every year.

The river dividing their kingdoms was very deep and swift. There was no bridge so the couple relied on magpies to flock together on this night to form a path so Shokujo could walk over to meet her husband. Today, the legend says that Shokujo is Vega, the Princess Star, and Kengyu is Altair, the Prince Star. One time each year these two stars cross paths, hence, they've become known as the star-crossed lovers.

The belief that Vega and Altair cross paths only once a year is very appealing to young Japanese girls. They eagerly pray during Tanabata for the success of their own love and also pray that the weather will be fair. If it rains the Milky Way will become flooded and the two stars will not be able to meet for another year. Rain on the evening of Tanabata is considered bad luck for couples.
